Member Protection Information Officer
What is a Member Protection Information Officer?
Also known as a MPIO, a Member Protection Information Officer provides all members of Dragons Abreast Brisbane with information and guidance on complaints, harassment and discrimination policies and procedures.
That means our MPIO is your 'go to' person if you want to discuss any problems or are thinking about making a formal complaint about something associated with MBT.
What can you expect from our MPIO?
While our MPIO is your first point of call if you are concerned about your wellbeing, or the wellbeing of another member of MBT, they are impartial to any dispute.
A Member Protection Information Office will listen to your concerns and can provide you with confidential information.
This information can include:
- Appropriate conflict resolution options
- Strategies for dealing directly with the other person you are in conflict with
- Relevant laws and the right to complain externally (if applicable)
- Referrals and contact details for counselling and other support sources
Things to Remember
MPIOs act confidentially and impartially. They are not on anyone’s side.
What does this mean?
- An MPIO can give advice about options to resolve a conflict, but can’t tell you what to do
- An MPIO is not a counsellor
- An MPIO will not intervene or investigate a complaint
- An MPIO cannot act on your behalf as your advocate
Dragon's Abreast Brisbane has adopted the Australian Dragon Boat Federation Membership Protection Policy. You can view that policy here.
