Down The Ord, They Went! June 9, 2019

It was just a Sunday paddle. Of 55km. Down the Ord River in the Kimberley Region.
Our team of paddlers travelled all the way to Kununurra, Western Australia – that’s a mere 42 hour drive!

The Ord River flows over 550km and is regulated by two dams that supply irrigation water for tropical agriculture. The irrigation project cost over $2 billion and provides 260 local jobs.
As well as spectacular scenery and natural flora, the Ord River is home to a vast array of natural wildlife:
- 4157 fish from 19 species in 13 families
- at least 75 bird species, including significant breeding and migrant populations
- plus freshwater crocodiles, whose population is believed to have swelled to over 35,0000 in the area.

Congratulations to the team of paddlers from Dragons Abreast Brisbane who trained hard and completed the 2019 Ord River paddle challenge. The phenomenal achievements during their adventure are a true reflection of the team’s solid preparation, dedication, and determination.
